Saginaw, Michigan, urban non-profit organization empowers youth with various educational and career-based opportunities and coming your State.

Statistics show that approximately 1.2 million youth drop out of high school each year. Many of them fall victim to the streets, violent crime, drug and alcohol addiction, or end up incarcerated. Opportunity for success in an actual career is diminished due to lack of tools or support to aid them to be successful contributing members to society.

The team at YDC wants these struggling youth to know that they can still succeed, despite their background or experiences. YDC’s program employs a simple approach to provide students with education, training, and credentialing options that are both “stackable” and “portable.” Upon successful completion, YDC provides them with direct entry into registered apprenticeship programs at a skilled trade organization.

YDC offers flexible, individualized options to earn a GED or High School Diploma. YDC extends this education by offering Post-Secondary Education through Delta College (up to 47 College Credits) and accelerated Bachelor Programs in Partnership with Northwood University and Saginaw Valley State University. Additionally, they offer hands-on instruction from industry professionals using core curriculum sponsored by the Carpenters International Training Fund (Career Pathways) and the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Wrap Around services offered are:

• Stipends (Incentives for completing measurable gains)
• Work Experience Opportunities (10.00 per hour up to 25 hours per week for a total of 90 days)
• Transportation (Through a partnership with Michigan Works, students can be eligible for Car Repairs, Auto Insurance, and Assistance with Driver’s License).
• Work Supplies (boots, safety gear, tools).
• Counseling (Mental Health and Substance Abuse)
• Coaching, and mentorship services
• Reduce up to 97% of court cost and fees (functional sentencing)
• Daycare and much more.

As a non-profit organization, YDC relies on donations and grants. Last year, the organization applied for their first grant ever.

In 2019, the U.S. Department of Labor awarded up to $85 million in YouthBuild grants to 67 grantees, and YDC received $1,499,917 in grants. The max grant was $1,500,000. The funding provided by these grants goes directly to the services that YDC humbly offers.

“We are not an organization that minimizes obstacles; we eliminate obstacles,” said Eric Eggleston, the Founder and Executive Director of YDC. YDC believes that youth can contribute to society if given opportunities to do so. YDC is committed to helping the underprivileged by building environmentally-conscious affordable housing.

YDC is accredited and certified by many institutions, including NCCER, the Department of Labor, Skills USA, YouthBuild USA, Delta College, Saginaw Valley State University, Northwood University, New Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Concerned Pastors of Flint, Electricians Union, and many more.
