StimScience Completes Successful Sleep Pilot Program to Help Introduce the Future of Sleep

Matthew Walker – renowned sleep expert, neuroscientist and author – defines sleep as the third pillar of health in his bestselling novel Why We Sleep. His statement that, “Sleep is the single most important thing we can do to reset our brain and body health each day” is in large part responsible for the explosive popularity of devices like the Oura Ring, and the investment from Apple Watch and FitBit in sleep tracking.

Sleep health is directly correlated to our mental health, long-term memory, learning, and physical fitness. Despite its importance, one in three adults gets an unhealthy amount of sleep, and 51% of people are dissatisfied with their sleep. Trying to make a dent in this growing problem, Americans spend billions of dollars annually on sleep-related products or sleep aids.

That is why a dream team of neuroscientists came together to create StimScience, a Berkeley, CA-based startup on a mission to translate advances of neuroscience into everyday consumer devices. The StimScience team, which includes Matthew Walker and other renowned scientific advisors, is starting by tackling one of the most common obstacles that humans face – the lack of quality sleep and sleep-related issues.

After conducting a multi-year sleep study and pilot program of their soon-to-be-announced Somnee electronic headband, the results are in and the findings are promising. On average, participants in the pilot increased their sleep duration by 30 minutes and decreased the amount of overnight tossing and turning by a third.

About StimScience:

StimScience is a startup on a mission to help people sleep better through personalized neuroscience. The team spent 3+ years working on closed-loop non-invasive brain stimulation that led to the invention of Somnee. Khosla Ventures funded StimScience to produce the world’s first electronic headband from the team’s breakthrough research that helps the brain naturally improve the quality and quantity of sleep people receive. StimScience is based in Berkeley, California, and is led by CEO Aaron Bromberg.
